Forest service to improve trail access in Hunt. cyn

By By

FERRON-The Ferron/Price Ranger District, Manti-La Sal National Forest is proposing to improve trail access in Huntington Canyon by building two trailhead parking areas and approximately 0.5 miles of new non-motorized trail. Improvements would take place adjacent to U31 at the mouths of Horse Canyon and Engineer Canyon.
Parking areas would be enlarged to better accommodate use, and provide space for those towing horse trailers. Camping would not be allowed in the trailhead parking areas.
The new non-motorized trail segment would be built between Engineer Canyon and Mill Canyon. All trail construction would occur within the reclaimed natural gas pipeline route adjacent to U31.
Additional improvements would be made at the Engineer Canyon trailhead to improve traditional dispersed camping including 150 yards of gravel road to dispersed campsites, graveled parking spurs and fire rings. Log and block barriers would be constructed where necessary to contain motorized use.
