On Dec. 7, the Emery County Aquatic Center and the Emery High swim team hosted a region 12 invitational swim meet. Eight teams came to Castle Dale to participate besides the hometown Spartan teams. Spanish Fork High, Richfield High, Carbon High, Grand County High, Delta High, Payson High and Wasatch Academy all sent teams to the meet.
In a meet that saw the team champion crowned after the very last event of the day, the host Emery High came within a single point of winning the meet title. Spanish Fork was the overall winner with 890 points to 889 scored by the Spartans. Richfield came in third with 872 points followed by Carbon with 837 points. The other teams followed way back.
Splitting the team by men and women’s, both Emery High teams finished in second place. Carbon High won the women’s side with 474 points to Emery’s 454 points. Richfield was third with 443 and Spanish Fork was fourth with 388. Spanish Fork won the men’s division with 502 points while the Spartans had 435 points and Richfield had 429 points.
Sisters Jessica and Laryssa Guymon were the leaders of the women as each won an individual event plus were on two winning relay teams plus they each finished second in another event. Jessica won the 100-yard breaststroke and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle. Laryssa won the 200-yard individual medley and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Guymon sisters joined with Hailee Rogers and Chyanne Carter to win both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Hailee Rogers finished second in the 200-yard individual medley behind Laryssa and second in the 100-yard butterfly. Chyanne Carter finished second in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.
For the men’s team, Emery had two swimmers that finished second and then a lot of depth gave the Spartans points throughout the meet. Spencer Fauver finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and Tyler Pulli finished second in the 100-yard freestyle.
Madi Allinson finished third in the 200-yard IM and third in the 100-yard backstroke for the women.
The men’s 200-yard free relay team of Tyler Pulli, Conor MacDonald, Justan Potter and Spencer Fauver won the event for the only win by the men’s team. Tyler Pulli finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, Colton Clement finished third in the 200-yard IM, Justan Potter finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle, Tex Stowe finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle and Kelvin Childs finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Emery High swim team hosted a tri meet right after the big regional invitational with Uintah and Grand High Schools and just like the previous meet, Emery came oh so close to winning. The final combined score was 251 Uintah, 247 Emery, 51 Grand. The men’s team lost to Uintah 126-124 and the women’s team lost 126-124. That is close.
In 22 events, Emery came out on top nine times and Grand once. Winners for the Spartans were both of the men and women’s 200-yard medley relay teams, Laryssa Guymon in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle, Justan Potter in the 200-yard freestyle, Spencer Fauver in the 50-yard freestyle, Melece Pulli in the 100-yard butterfly, Tyler Pulli in the 100-yard freestyle and Jessica Guymon in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Laryssa was a member of that winning relay team along with Jessica, Hailee Rogers and Madi Allinson. Laryssa also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Other members of that team were Tanner Peterson, Kaitlyn Sailing and Melece Pulli.
Jessica finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and was a member of the 400-yard relay team that finished second. Other members of that team were Chyanne Carter, Madi Allinson and Hailee Rogers. Rogers finished second in the 200-yard IM and in the 100-yard backstroke.
Members of that winning relay team for the men were Spencer Fauver, Tyler Pulli, Colton Clement and Conor MacDonald. Fauver also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and with the 200-yard freestyle relay team. That team included Pulli, MacDonald and Potter.
