WELLINGTON-Lola Jean Nelson, age 82, of Wellington, peacefully passed away on May 11, 2013. She was born on Oct. 23, 1930, in Hiawatha, to Ervin and Grace Erickson. A graduate of Carbon High, Lola married Dwane “Pinky” Nelson in March 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on Oct. 31, 1987.
Lola had a way of making everyone feel loved and important. She was an avid reader and pen-pal, who loved card games, bowling, fishing, and camping with family and friends. She was like a mother to many, especially to her beloved nieces and nephews.
Lola’s life exemplified charity. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. She was the first woman to be elected as President of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce. Lola also served as Chapter President of both the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Business /Professional Women of Carbon County. She served on the College of Eastern Utah Foundation, American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, and for more than 20 years in the American Red Cross. She was named “Outstanding Young Woman” from the Price chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for her service work. Lola was a banker at Carbon-Emery Bank/Zions Bank, and later became a proud Pink Lady Volunteer. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in Relief Society, Sunday School, and Primary teacher.
Lola is survived by her son, Chris Nelson (Laurie) of Price; sister Carolyn (Louie) of Seattle; sisters-in-law Renae Hill, of Wellington, and Beth Barnier, of Santa Clara; son-in-law Doug Ehler, of Elmo; grandchildren Greg Nelson (Amanda), of Crestview, Fla.; Jared “Buck” Ehler, of Salt Lake; Will Ehler, of Wellington; Cara Jenkins (Bud), of Castle Dale; Ryan Nelson (Carlie), of Price; eight great-grandchildren; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband Pinky; daughter Julie Ehler; parents; sisters Winona Marx and Enid Baldwin; and brother Wayne Erickson.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Wellington LDS Stake Center (935 East Main St., Wellington). A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
