The Green River Pirate baseball team is eight games into the 2013 fall baseball season and Coach Rob Maughan has his team playing a tough schedule to prepare his players for the region season and the ensuing play-offs.
Green River has a 3-5 record through last Friday’s game at Richfield against Valley. Green River won the consolation trophy at the Valley tournament earlier, the first time the Pirates have returned with a trophy in baseball in quite a while.
Green River started the season with a loss to Panguitch by the score of 7-0 followed by another loss to Panguitch at the Valley tournament, this time by the score of 10-8. The Pirates then defeated Intermountain Christian 23-0 and Manila 12-6. The Pirates then lost to Wayne 15-1, Piute 12-5 and Valley 10-8. They did defeat St Joseph 11-4 during that final run.
In their last game against Valley, Green River scored four runs in the final inning and had two runners in scoring position when the batter hit a screamer to the gap only to see the Valley outfielder run it down for the final out of the game.
Spencer Marshall leads the team with 2 homeruns and a double while Chance Pfander has two doubles and a homerun in this young season.
The Pirates will play three games next weekend at Panguitch.
