The high school softball and baseball seasons are quickly wrapping up and the Emery High teams are trying to position themselves for the upcoming state tournaments.
The Emery High baseball team is currently in second place in region 15 with a 5-2 record. Grand High is leading with a 7-1 record and San Juan is in third place with a 5-3 record. Emery will play two region games this week, on Tuesday at home against South Sevier and on Friday at San Juan. The following Tuesday, Emery will travel to South Sevier to make a weather delayed game. Grand has two games left, both on the road. They play at Monticello and at San Juan.
The state rankings for 2-A baseball are Manti first, Beaver second, Grand third, Gunnison fourth and Emery fifth.
The Lady Spartan softball team is currently in fourth place in the region with a 1-3 record. San Juan leads the region followed by Grand and Richfield. South Sevier is 0-5. Emery and South Sevier play twice in the next eight days. Emery hosts South Sevier Tuesday and then travels to San Juan Friday. Emery will then travel to South Sevier the following week along with a game against Richfield. The last two games are weather delayed games.

In a make-up game last week, Richfield came to Castle Dale and defeated Emery 8-5. Richfield scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to snare the win. Emery then traveled to Grand and avenged an earlier loss by defeating the host team 5-1 as starting pitcher Dillon Wilstead scattered five base hits through the game in picking up the win.
The Emery softball team has lost their last two games to San Juan and to Grand. Visiting San Juan jumped on Emery early and often in snaring a 19-5 road win. The Lady Spartans committed nine errors in the game to assist the hard hitting Bronco team. San Juan finished with 16 base hits including four home runs while Emery had seven base hits.
At Grand, Emery led 3-2 after first inning, trailed 5-4 after four innings only to see the Devils score six runs in the fifth inning to grab the lead and lose the game 11-6. Both teams had nine base hits in the game but six Emery errors assisted the Grand bats. Auminee Bennett and Makayla Clark hit home runs in the game for the Spartans while Bennett, Jeridi Price and Bryton Hess each hit a double.
