The Emery High Wrestling team hosted Manti in a non-region dual meet last week and the Spartans came away with a victory as they outscored the Templars 54-30.
Half of the normal matches in the meet were forfeits by one of the teams as they did not have a wrestler in the weight class or the one they had did not make weight that night.
Emery forfeited the 170 lb class, the 182 lb class, the 113 lb class, the 120 lb class and the 126 lb class. This accounted for all of Manti’s points for the night as the Spartans won every contested weight class.
Emery did take advantage of two Manti forfeits in the 106 lb class and the 152 lb class. McKoy Christiansen was the victor for Emery in the lighter weight while Matt Mecham won the heavier weight.
In the first contested weight class of the night, Emery’s Cole Guymon pinned his opponent in the 160 lb class. Guymon got the early lead with a takedown only to have his opponent escape and then have his own takedown. Guymon got a reversal and then led after the first period 6-4. Guymon got the pin in the second period.
George Sorensen wrestled with a sore arm but still managed to pin his man in the second round. Sorensen wrestles in the 195 lb weight class.
Kenden Huff at 220 pounds led his match 6-4 after the first round and then went on to record a pin in the second round. Heavyweight Ky Jensen had the takedown in the opening seconds of the match and then recorded the quickest pin of the night, as he was the victor 49 seconds into the match.
At 132 pounds, Wyatt Oveson won his match when his opponent had to forfeit due to an injury, which left him unable to perform.
Paden Wells pinned his man in the second fastest time of the night but it took him 1:13 to do so. Wells took his man down and almost immediately got him into a hold that he would never escape from. Also wrestling this night was Josh Gonzales.
In the final match of the night, Ryan Cox led 2-0 after the first period as he scored his points with a takedown. Starting from the up position in the second period, Cox controlled his man the entire period before finally pinning him with 19 seconds left in the period.
Emery traveled to the UVU tournament over the weekend.
