The Emery High lady Spartans split their two away games last week. On Tuesday, Emery traveled to Richfield and lost to one of the best 2-A teams in the state by the score of 53-44. On Saturday evening, Emery traveled to Grand High in Moab and came home with a solid 63-20 win.
At Richfield, the Wildcats controlled each of the first three quarters in grabbing the victory. Emery was outscored 7-4 in the first period, 12-9 in the second and 18-14 in the third. The Wildcat defense seemed to make life rough for the Emery offense. Richfield does a really good job of protecting the ball and keeping their opponents from any easy scores.
Shelby Allred and Hannah Dyer were the two leading scorers in the game with 11 points each. Ashlynn Allred scored 9 points and Jeridi Price added 8 points. Kelsie Cox scored 3 points and Bailey Rasmussen scored 2 points according to the official stats.
Rasmussen and Price each had 6 rebounds in the game while Dyer and Ashlynn Allred each had 2 steals. Cox, Ashlynn Allred and Price each had 2 assists and Price finished with 2 blocked shots.
Against Grand, the team expected the game to be over early and it was. Emery won the first period 16-3 and the second period 16-2 to lead at the half 32-5. Grand has struggled so far this season. Emery won the third quarter 29-15.
Most of the Emery team saw playing time in this one with 13 different Spartans scoring in the game. The leading scorer was Dyer with 10 points. Price scored 8 points, Rasmussen scored 7 points and Shelby Allred, Camry Johnson and Ashton Bell each scored 6 points.
Ashlynn Allred scored 5 points, Cassidy Labrum scored 4 points and Lacy McElprang scored 3 points. Paytn Jeffs, Jessica Olsen, Kambrie Hinkins and Aniston Curtis each scored 2 points.
For the season, Ashlynn Allred is the leading scorer with 147 points and an 11.3 average to be the only Spartan averaging in double figures. Price is next in scoring with 118 points and a 9.1 average. Cox leads the team with 28 assists while Ash Allred has 22 assists. Rasmussen leads with 10 blocked shots and has 78 rebounds. Price leads in rebounds with 84 and she has 5 blocked shots. Ashlynn Allred leads with 57 steals for the season with Price next with 22 and Dyer following with 21.
Emery will be home for the first time in over a month when they host San Juan this Friday night. Game time 7 p.m. for the varsity.
