Last week, the Emery High girl’s tennis team opened region play with a double-header. Starting Tuesday morning at 10 a.m., the team was hosted by Grand High in Moab and then after a short bus drive, the team was hosted by San Juan High in Blanding at 3 p.m. At Grand, both Emery doubles teams won while the singles players lost. At San Juan, the Broncos swept the Spartans in all five matches.
Emery’s first doubles team of Banner Fauver and Savannah Woolsey won their first match 7-6, 7-6 and then lost at San Juan 4-6, 7-6 and 4-6. San Juan is a good program but you also have to wonder about playing two matches in one day as the region requires for the traveling school.
Emery’s second doubles team of Brittany Fortner and Ashleigh Robinson won the first match 6-4, 6-4 and then lost their second match 2-6, 4-6.
Emery’s singles players are Madelyn Carter, Tina Lacock and Mikayla Prettyman. Carter lost at Grand 1-6, 2-6 while Lacock lost 0-6, 2-6 and Prettyman lost 1-6, 3-6.
All three lost at San Juan without scoring a point.
