Jackie Sparks was born to Bradford A. Jensen and Leola Zwahlen Jensen in Castle Dale. At the age of 5 her family moved to Ferron where her father began teaching. She lived here until she married her husband, Andy Sparks. The first 20 years of Jackie and Andy’s married life was spent in Iowa. She enjoyed driving truck with her husband and had many fun and exciting experiences. In 1972 Jackie and her husband moved back to Ferron. She loves the people and is thankful to live in Ferron. Jackie is an avid Utah Jazz and BYU fan and enjoys attending games with family or friends.
Jackie began working for Ferron City at the Millsite Golf Course in 1992. She has been privileged to work at the course for Mayors Dale Roper, Garth Larsen, Kent Larsen, Gil Bowden, Gil Conover and JoAnn Behling and with all three golf pros, Jerry Braun, Steve Burke and most recently, Jordan Leonard. Jackie is passionate about the game of golf and about the Millsite Golf Course. Her favorite time to work was on Sunday mornings. She loved her interaction with the people that would come every week to golf. She was a favorite of the regular group too. They fondly remember joking with her and teasing her with their money. While working at the golf course, Jackie loved meeting new people from out of the area, learning where they were from and what would bring them to golf in Ferron. She has been an active member of the Ladies Golf Association since it began and still enjoys golfing with the ladies. Jackie is a people person and has always had the ability to communicate with people. She is friendly and outgoing and has a great wit about her. Jackie retired from the golf course in the spring of 2011 and has been greatly missed (especially by the Sunday morning crowd). She was such a familiar face at the course that occasionally as she travels she comes across someone who recognizes her as someone they met when they came to play golf. This sums up the type of person Jackie is, someone who becomes part of you from the first time you meet her. Her love of Ferron, of golf, and of the people who live here is what makes her such a valuable asset in our community and is one of the reasons Ferron City is proud to have Jackie as an Honored Citizen in the Peach Day Parade.
