A partial collapse at the Rhino Mine in Huntington Canyon this afternoon has reportedly killed one miner and injured another.
The deceased miner has been identified as Elam Jones, 28, of Huntington. Jones was recovered by Rhino’s own rescue team and was identified by relatives.
The Emery County Sheriff’s Office reported that Emery County dispatch received a call from the mine at 3:12 pm to report the incident. The only other miner involved in the partial collapse, Dallin McFarlane of Cleveland, was sent to Castleview Hospital where he was treated and released.
The initial sheriff’s department press release indicated that an investigation of the mine cave-in will be conducted by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
