Emery County Landfill


Business hours for the Emery County Landfill are Tues-Fri., 9 a.m.-5:15 p.m. and on Sat., 8 a.m to 4:15 p.m. Closed on Mondays and on July 4. For questions call 381-2719.

Huntington City


Huntington City secondary water schedule. There will be no watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There may be a severe water shortage this year. It is a violation to allow water to run onto land owned by another person or onto city streets. Anyone wasting water will be subject to penalties.

Swimming Pool Hours


The Castle Dale Swimming Pool is open! Aquasize, Mon.-Fri. 8-9 p.m; Open Swim, Mon. and Wed., 4-7 p.m., and Sat., Noon-7 p.m.; Monday Family Night 7-9 p.m. Lap Swim, Mon-Fri., 6-7:30 p.m. For more information call the pool at 381-5298.

Food Handler Permit


There will be a food handlers permit on May 22 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department (28 South 100 East). Green River will hold their classes on May 23 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the Green River City Hall. For more information contact Terri at 381-2252.

Spring City’s Heritage Day


Spring City will hold their annual Heritage Day on May 25. It is sponsored by the Friends of Historic Spring City and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. The day will include a tour of historic homes, an art and antiques show at the old Spring City school, and horse drawn wagon rides around town. Health Career Camp


Attention high school students looking for health care careers! Utah AHEC is presenting a 3-day camp at SUU on June 10-12. An affordable three days of on-campus housing, meals, looking at career options, profession skills, science experiments, and social activities, interacting with local health care providers and college students is available by registering now. Emery High Awards Program


Emery High School announces that the awards program usually held on the last day of school will be held on May 21 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. All scholarships, departmental awards and any special awards will be given on this night.

Graduation Night


May 23 is the night to celebrate graduation in the old gym at Emery High School. Following graduation, music by “Beat of Time” will play for a dance. Free pizza, drinks, snacks, and door prizes for all, sponsored by the Peer Helper Club. No alcohol or drugs will be allowed. Come prepared to have a fun and safe night.

Grand Opening Gigliotti Pond


Of special interest is the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Gigliotti Pond in Helper on May 25. Ribbon cutting will take place at 9 a.m. The pond will be open to public fishing shortly thereafter.
The DWR will have extra rods, reels, tackle and baits for kids who don’t have their own. Kids under 14 may fish without a license. Those 14 and older need one.

Jr. Miss and Miss Orangeville


The annual Jr. Miss and Miss Orangeville pageant will be held on May 28 this year at the High School auditorium. All Orangeville Junior High and High School girls interested please pick up an application at the Orangeville City Hall or Contact Elda at 748-2343.

Cowboy Poetry


The 8th annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering will be held on June 1 at the 777 Ranch on Dutch Flat Road in Ferron. The Circuit riders from Cody, Wyo., and Ron Ehman, a cowboy poet, from Elko, Nev., will entertain with their musical numbers, humor and poetry. Hayrides will begin at 3 p.m., a BBQ will be held at 5 p.m. and the program at 6 p.m. For more information contact Rick Benson at 384-3001.

Spanish Trail Rodeo


The Spanish Trail Rodeo will be held in Ferron on June 7 and 8 starting at 8 p.m. Mutton bustin and steer riding will start at 7 p.m. Steer riders must sign up ahead of time. Local entries and early sign ups contact Boe Taylor 687-9135.

Rodeo Queen and Princess


The Spanish Trail Rodeo Queen and Princess tryouts will be June 1 starting at 5 p.m. Ages for princess is 13 and under, Queen is 14 and up. Contact Tammy Funk 653-2986 for further information on sign ups. Judges will be from out of the local area.

Artist Grants


The Utah Arts Council’s Artist Services program is offering up to $1200 to artists in all disciplines for professional opportunities. The deadline for the Artist Grants is June 3. Applications and guidelines may be requested from the Utah Arts Council at 801-236-7549.

Fund Raiser for Rick Dotson


An auction and dinner will be held on June 8 at the Cleveland Elementary, for the benefit of Rick Dotson. Who has been diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma Skin Cancer. Archaeological Society


The Utah Statewide Archaeological Society (USAS) will hold its annual statewide convention on June 7-9 at the Antelope Island State Park in Davis County. The public is welcome to attend but both USAS members and nonmembers must preregister in order to get discounted state park entrance and group camping fees and meals. Volunteers for Utah Arts Festival


The 26th annual Utah Arts Festival is looking for approximately 1,000 volunteers to assist with this year’s celebration.
