Manti High School won their first state golf title in 36 years last week as they defeated Grand High by two strokes at the Palisades State Park golf course. Manti finished with a score of 676 followed by Grand at 678. Palisades is Manti’s home course.
The Emery High Spartans capped off a successful season by finishing fifth in the two-day affair. Emery shot a 707 team score as they trailed Layton Christian and Rowland Hall. South Summit shot a 720 and finished sixth.
McKlane Allred finished the season by leading the team in scoring with a 171 score shooting an 88 the opening day and an 83 the second day. Teammate Jordan Fuller finished with a 172 as he shot an 87 and an 85. Tyeray Migliori finished with a 178 after shooting a 91 and an 87. Kyler Farley’s score counted for the Spartans on Wednesday, a 94, and Mark Debry’s score counted on Thursday for Emery, an 87.
Jaece Stokes of Layton Christian had the best individual score of the two days as he shot 142. A Gunnison and two Manti players were then second as it was evident that playing the course regularly was an advantage.
