Fatal Crash I-70 in Emery County results in Double Fatality
On July 7, at 12:42 pm a 2004 Nissan pathfinder was eastbound on I-70 at mile 158, west of Green River. The vehicle was eastbound occupied by eight individuals. The driver went off the left side of the roadway and then steered back onto the roadway. He overcorrected which resulted in a loss of control of the vehicle. The vehicle began rolling on the highway and ended rolling off the right side of the highway. During the rollover two passengers were ejected from the vehicle. It is believed the fatal victim was sitting between the second row seats, not in a seat or belted in. The other victim ejected was also not wearing a seatbelt. The remaining occupants of the vehicle were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and sustained minor injuries.
The fatal victim is identified as 14 year old Daisy Figueroa from Denver, Colo. The 64 year old transported in critical condition to Grand Junction, Colo. is Alicia Figueroa.
Alicia Figueroa, is the grandmother of Daisy Figueroa, she died from her injuries later in the evening at the hospital. The driver 25 year old Miguel Figueroa was not injured. Five other passengers who were seatbelted in the vehicle had little to no injuries.
