Emery swimmers second in state

Last Thursday the Emery High swim teams headed off to BYU to participate in the first-ever Utah State High School 2-A swim meet and by the time they had left Provo, they were coming home as the second place team in both the girls and boys divisions. All 2-A schools with swim teams had competed with the 3-A schools up until now but finally the Utah High School Activities Association had enough sense to allow the smaller schools to compete with themselves.
The Lady Spartans, led by Laryssa Guymon’s first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, finished right behind North Summit in the girl’s side. The Emery boys led by Spencer Fauver’s two second-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle finished second behind Rowland Hall.
North Summit edged Emery 244 points to 221 points with Rowland Hall finishing third with 185 points and Grand High fourth with 181 points. Rowland Hall scored 223 points on the boy’s side while the Spartan boys scored 170 points and North Summit was third with 166 points.
Guymon also scored points by finishing second in the 200-yard individual medley and swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished third and the 200-yard freestyle relay team that also finished third. Fauver also swam on the 200-yard medley relay team for boys and the 400-yard freestyle relay team for boys and both finished second.
Also swimming with Guymon on the medley relay team were Madi Allinson, Kaitlyn Sailing and Chyanne Carter. Swimming on the ladies freestyle relay team were Carter, Allinson and Melece Pulli. Swimming on the boys medley relay team were Kelvin Childs, McKade Hansen and Justan Potter. Swimming on the 400-yard relay team were Potter, Kayden Parkins and Levi Jensen.
Emery also scored points in the boy’s 200-yard freestyle relay race as they finished sixth and swimming for the Spartans were Hansen, Parkins, Devin Wilson and Nate Gilbert. The Emery girl’s 400-yard freestyle relay team also place as they finished fourth. Swimming on this team were Krista Wright, Jamie Gilbert, Sailing and Pulli.
Also scoring points for the Lady Spartans were Sailing in the 200-yard medley with a sixth place finish and a sixth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Carter placed breaststroke. Carter placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and in the 100-yard freestyle. Pulli was forth in the 100-yard butterfly while Wright was sixth in the 500-yard freestyle. Allinson finished fourth in the 500-yard and third in the 100-yard backstroke.
Also scoring points for the boy’s team were Potter in the 100-yard freestyle with a fourth place finish and Childs in the 100-yard breaststroke with a fourth place finish.
