Emery/Green River grad night Thursday

Emery High and Green River High will host their graduation exercises on May 22 at 7 p.m. Emery High announced its honor students for the class of 2014 at a senior meeting on April 29. The honor students are Sarah Collard, Banner Fauver, Savannah Woolsey and Carson Healey. Co-Salutatorians are Drexler Tanner and Hayden Johnson. The Valedictorian is Sarah Roberts.
Roberts served as the Student Body Reporter/Historian. She is a member of the debate team, participating in Public Forum, Congress, Oratory, and Spar. She is on the quiz bowl team and the drama and science clubs. Roberts enjoys a wide range of extra-curricular activities. As a member of the National Honor Society, she acts as a senior service representative. She is an active councilwoman on the Youth City Council and has had the opportunity to give speeches on the State House floor. Roberts is the daughter of Wayne and Suzette Roberts.
Hayden Johnson is an accomplished writer. His sports articles have been published in the Deseret News. He has had two stories published in The Huntin’ Fool Magazine. He writes for the local news, ETV10, and for the school newspaper, the Spartan Shield. Johnson is the Congress captain for the Speech and Debate team and the statistician for both the basketball and baseball teams. He is involved with other extracurricular activities such as Quizbowl, FBLA and Science Club. He is the Student-Body Vice President of Emery High School and is actively involved with the student council. He is an Eagle Scout. He is the son of Doug and Tracey Johnson.
Drexler Tanner is the captain of the basketball team and the two time state championship baseball team. He is the seminary council president. He is the owner and operator of a microbusiness in Orangeville called the “Sno Shack.” He received his Eagle Scout Award while living in the Dominican Republic where he was constantly involved in service projects with his Scout Troop and family. He was President of the National Honor Society senior year and Seminary Council President. Tanner is the son of Mark and Nanette Tanner of Orangeville.
Banner Fauver is the science club president. She also serves as the peer tutor club president and secretary for the National Honor Society. During the fall she participated on her high school’s tennis team and has received Academic All-State. She has taken all the AP and Honors classes her high school has to offer. Once a week she volunteers to help a special needs student at a local elementary with science projects he uses to connect socially with his peers. She has also judged multiple elementary science fairs for Emery County School District. In her spare time she teaches beginning piano to children, takes piano lessons, and accompanies youth groups for her church. Fauver is the daughter of Jim and Jennifer Fauver.
Carson is the son of Quinn and Kacie Healy. Throughout high school, he has enjoyed his science, drafting and architectural, shop, and weight lifting classes. He enjoys shed hunting, his friends, riding his motorcyle, and being outdoors. He plans to attend Snow College this fall. After attending Snow for two years, he plans to move on to the Colorado School of Mines to major in Petroleum Engineering. Sarah Collard is the 18 year old daughter of Curt and Natalie Collard of Huntington. She maintains a 4.0 grade point average. Sarah is a member of EHS’s cross country team.
Sarah’s favorite classes are science, history, and math, especially calculus. She likes reading, playing the piano, and being with friends. Sarah plans on attending Snow College to become an engineer.
Taylor Rae Johnson, is the daughter of Keith and Amy Johnson. Throughout high school she has participated in varsity volleyball, basketball, track and drama. She did all of this and maintained her high GPA. She will be attending Southern Utah University in the fall where she plans on studying psychology and elementary education. When she finishes her education she would like to work with children that have special needs.
Robin Nicole Nelson daughter of Robert and Kaye Nelson. She enjoyed playing basketball as a GRHS Lady Pirate for four years, and was a starter of her varsity team her senior year. Through ed net she was able to attain 23 college credits as well as completing all the necessary credits for high school. She plans on furthering her college education at Snow College in Ephraim, where she hopes to attain her Associates degree. She enjoys horseback riding, four wheeling, rafting, hiking and anything else you can do outdoors. She also enjoys reading, creative writing, and photography.
Sydney Thayn is the daughter of Nathan Thayn and Marcy Vetere. She enjoys playing volleyball and basketball, especially playing varsity at school. Throughout her high school career she always held an office in student government. This year she enjoyed being the Student Body President. Some of her hobbies include driving tractor, playing sports and reading. Sydney is enrolled at Snow College and is excited to further her education.
My name is Holly Anne S. Manalili, but my nickname is Hannah. I came from the Philippines and moved to Green River almost seven years ago.
I enjoy watching dramas online and listening to Kpop whenever I can. I’m a little kid when it comes to hats, hoodies, and cute childish things in between. My kids at Pioneer Clubs know how to make me laugh and are the best of all, period.
Taking stolen shots is my forte and my stalking skills are elite. Conquering different countries (especially Japan and Korea) are my long term goals. Till then, I’ll keep waiting for my beautiful Korean man, dance in my room, and eat ramen.
Kelsey Lee McFarlane is the daughter of Kim and Cindy McFarlane. She loves reading and riding her horse Penny Lane. Kelsey plans on attending USU Eastern in the fall and pursuing a degree in Elementary Education.
Kierstin Ford, daughter of Randy and Karmin Ford is in the graduating class of 2014 at Green River High School.
She is also part of the USU Eastern 2014 graduating class having earned her associates degree this spring.
While attending USU Eastern she became part of the National Society of Collegiate scholars, and the Golden Key International Honors Society.
Kierstin loves to learn, unicycle, horseback ride, and train/play with her dog. As for her future, she plans to attend SUU in the fall, and hopes to one day become a veterinarian.
