"Pat Behling talks about her business."

Pats Sew-N-Stuff is the business spotlight for July. Pat Behling said, “I have had my store for 26 years on July 1. I started the store because I couldn’t find a spool of thread in town. My husband sold some cows and gave me $5,000 to start my business with. I started with 28 bolts of fabric and notions. Every dime I made went back into the store buying more fabric and stocking the store. We now have 3,000 bolts of fabric.
“It’s been a challenge. I figured if we were in business for five years that would be OK, but it’s been 26. Hazel McMullin had a fabric store in Huntington, but I didn’t know she was closing. Walmart came in and they had fabric and that was a slow time, but we survived.”
To celebrate 26 years in business they had a half off sale in July and each Christmas they have special sales. She employs three ladies. Nellie Smith has worked at the store since it opened. Nellie will be 90 on Sept. 1. Pat said Nellie is the reason the store’s still there and her dedication to the business has been vital to its success.
Pats Sew -n-Stuff is located on Main Street in Ferron, right behind Gillys. They are open from 12:30-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. She is a Bernina sub-dealer and can get sewing machines ordered in for her customers.s
Barbara Rasmussen gave Pat a compliment when she said there no better fabric than what you can get at Pat’s. The bargain fabrics don’t hold up as well and they shrivel and shrink when washed.
