Last week Ashlynn Allred and Paytn Jeffs represented Emery High at the Pine View Invitational track meet. Emery finished seventh out of 27 schools.
Jeffs finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 15’6″ and sixth in the high jump with a jump of 4’11”. The winning high jump was a jump of 5’4″, a jump that Paytn has made before.
Allred finished first in the 200 meters with a time of 25.33, just .07 seconds off the 2-A Utah State mark that she currently holds. Allred also finished second in the 100 meters behind Kaysha Love of Herriman with a time of 12.56.
The Emery track team is in Blanding today for the San Juan Invitational and will travel to Juab this Friday/Saturday for the Juab Invitational.
After defeating a hapless Wasatch Academy last Tuesday by the score of 30-0, Emery baseball traveled to Union to play the Cougars in a non-region contest. Emery came home from the Uintah Basin with their first loss of the season as the host team took advantage of the many Emery mistakes throughout the game.
At Union, Emery pitching had been pretty solid up until now but not in this game as walks and hit batters were common. Emery gave up the 20 runs but only 13 base hits and the Spartans made five errors in the field to add to their misery.
Union scored one in the first and the Spartans added one in the second. Emery added another in the third inning but Union scored seven in the bottom of that inning. Emery scored six runs in the top of the fourth but then gave up six in the bottom of the inning. Emery scored twice in the top of the fifth inning but Union scored six in the bottom of the inning and the game was over.
In this game Tyson Roper had a triple and a double at the plate and Gavin McDermott had two doubles. Ethan Tuttle also hit a double. Emery had six other hits in the game.
Against Wasatch Academy, Emery scored at will against the team. Emery scored nine runs in the first inning, eight in the second inning and 13 in the third inning. Emery had 17 hits and Wasatch committed 14 errors.
McDermott had two triples and Drexler Tanner and Logan Labrum each had one. Tel Gardner had a triple and a double in the game. Brayden Burke, Marco Mota, Ridge Nielson, Tanner Lake, Teigan Jewkes and Roper each had a double.
Emery tries to get back on the winning track this week with a home game Tuesday against South Sevier, a non-region game Wednesday at Uintah and a double header Friday at Monticello.
The Emery High softball team lost a non-region game against Uintah last Wednesday at home by the score of 15-0 and then followed that up with a road trip to Monroe for a region game against South Sevier. After being up 17-9 after the top of the fourth inning, the Spartans lost the game 18-17.
Ashton Bell hit a homerun in the game and Hailee Beckstead and Makayla Clark each had doubles as part of Emery’s 11 base hits this in the game. The Rams had 13 hits and both teams had five errors.
Emery’s lone game this week is today when South Sevier comes to Castle Dale for a rematch.
The Emery High boys’ soccer team lost two games last week. First North Sevier defeated Emery 3-1 and TyeRay Migliori scored a goal and then Wasatch Academy defeated the Spartans 8-0. Emery will host Gunnison this Thursday.
