Federal and State agencies are recruiting for wildland firefighting positions in the 2014 wildfire season. The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service and the Utah Division Forestry, Fire and State Lands are looking for wildland firefighters to start work in May of 2014. Applications are available online.
Seasonal jobs in firefighting may include working on a local unit engine, a helitack crew, a Hotshot Crew, or other wildland crews. Wildland fire work requires arduous physical exertion under rigorous conditions. The ability to work extended hours in rough, uneven terrain is essential. Camping out and moving around in a variety of outdoor terrain is a normal part of the workday. Minimum physical skills include heavy labor, bending, lifting, and carrying gear weighing 45 pounds or more.
