"Orangeville Bridge needs some repair work."

By PHIL FAUVER staff writer

Orangeville City Council was held for August.
One of the first items on the agenda was awarding Braden Howard, the son of Jay Howard, with a Kindle reader.
The library held a Young Adult reading challenge. Sixteen boys and girls signed up for the program. They were to read for half an hour and write down what they thought the ending of the book would be. Then they were to finish the book and write the difference and rate the book. Fourteen boys and girls gave book reports. Braden Howard read and turned in the most reports. As each person completed a book report they put their name in for the drawing. Mayor Roger Swenson drew Braden Howard’s winning name from the bucket.
Carole Larsen said they could not have purchased the Kindle without the help of the city.
Brent Tuttle of Johansen and Tuttle Engineering recommended the awarding of Orangeville City Bridge repair over Cottonwood Creek to Nielson Construction. Nielson Construction’s bid of 86,170 dollars was the lowest bid of three bidders. Tuttle presented to the mayor a letter stating they had reviewed the bids and found the qualifications of Nielson Construction sufficient to perform the work. Pending the approval of the City Council a notice to proceed will be sent. This repair is urgently needed because the monsoon season is here and the repair will help avoid the flooding that occurred last year. The Orangeville City Council accepted the Nielson Construction bid.
Tuttle said he would present the award to Nielson Construction and as soon as they get their bonding they will be able to proceed with the repair of the bridge and river bottom.
The Council approved the priority list sent to Castle Valley Special Service District, which is estimated to be $175,000 to $200,000 for improvements such as replacing old water lines in five or six city blocks, and use any remaining money for asphalt on streets and new curbs and gutters.
Larsen of the Planning and Zoning Commission said they would be working in October on the Five Year General Plan with measurable goals. They are working on a list of realistic things they would like to see in Orangeville in the next five years. A walking trail along the Cottonwood Creek has been suggested.
Cindy Nelson, city treasurer reported this years Orangeville Days went very well and the Fireworks display on the hill at the West side of Orangeville was outstanding.
Stilson reported the Youth City Council has elected Jordan Tuttle to be the Mayor.
