The Emery High Lady Spartan volleyball team started the region season off right as they took down Grand High at home last Tuesday night, winning 3-2. Emery then hosted South Sevier on Thursday night and the visiting Rams got out of town with a 3-0 win.
On Tuesday, Emery dominated the first two sets winning 25-19 and 25-11. Grand then snuck out two wins to tie the score and send the match into the fifth and final set. Grand won the third set 25-23 and the fourth 27-25, narrow margins for sure but still enough to win. In that final set, Emery was trailing 8-5 when the Spartans won the point and Camrey Johnson began serving. The team took on a winning aura at his point and scored 10 straight points including three aces by Johnson and won going away.
In the first game, Emery and Grand were tied at 15-15 when Emery scored 10 of the last 14 points to get the win. Johnson served three straight followed by Ashton Bell serving a point and then Jessica Olsen closing out the game by serving the final two points. In the second game, this game was never close and the Spartans romped. Cassidy Labrum served well in this game as nine points were scored when she was serving.
In games three and four it just seemed like Emery still played alright offensively but Grand was up to the challenge and edged out the two wins.
Against South Sevier Emery played well but not well enough as it just seemed like it was South Sevier’s night. Emery led late in both the first and third games but were unable to hold the lead either time. In game two, Emery started strong but then it was all Rams after that. In that second set, South Sevier began serving and did not score a point. Emery got the ball and the serve and just like that the Spartans were up 9-0 as Emily Olsen served and her teammates played well. Just as quickly though as they got up they went down. Three servers later, South Sevier rattled off 11 straight points and the Spartans were down 14-11. The game was still close at 16-18 but five straight points put up the Rams at 23-16 and they soon won. In the first game, Emery led 22-18 but the Rams scored the final seven points to get the win. In the third game, the score tied throughout. It was 21-21, 22-22 but South Sevier finished to get the win. Emery continues on with region play this week. Emery will host San Juan on Tuesday night and then will travel to North Sevier on Thursday night.
