Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Dale, held their Christmas Party Dec. 8, 2014 at the Castle Dale Senior Citizens Center.
The DUP Camp Dale, Captain Pam Jeffs welcomed the ladies to the luncheon.
After a blessing on the food, Karen Huntsman clothed in a Santa costume read from the book “I Believe In Santa Claus.” This was a history of how Christmas had changed from a pagan holiday to an event that was accepted and celebrated by many Christian Churches including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She also quoted some of the information found in the Dec. 2, 2014 Emery County Progress on page B-3 in the second section concerning facts about Christmas.
Brigham Young was fond of celebrating the holidays. This was perhaps a way of brightening the lives of the pioneers.
John Piermont a poet, lawyer, minister and merchant wrote the song “Jingle Bells.”
Sally Sherman told the story of how Dr. Clement C Moore came to write “The Night Before Christmas.”
Mary Kava introduced Geniel Ashton Huntington as the newest member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and handed her the certificate of membership.
Each daughter was given a bell on a red ribbon and was asked to jingle the bell while the songs “Jingle Bells”, “Silver Bells”, and “Winter Wonderland” sung by the group. Zora Peacock with Gwen Peacock at the piano led them in the singing of three Christmas songs.
Following the singing they began to relate stories about their most memorable Christmas gift or Christmas.
