Search and Rescue locates missing boys

The Emery County Sheriff’s Office and the Search and Rescue was involved with a search involving two teenage boys last Sunday/Monday.
Sheriff Greg Funk said this time of year it’s very important that if your vehicle becomes stuck in the snow to stay with the vehicle and you will be located more easily.
Be prepared with water, food, blankets and warm clothing including boots and gloves in your vehicle. The two teenagers had gone to Joe’s Valley to drop some things off at the family cabin. They decided to go back home over the Miller’s Flat road and became stuck by Potter’s Pond. They stayed with the vehicle a Ford 150 for a while and then decided to walk back to the cabin in Joe’s Valley.
They started walking about 9:30 p.m. and arrived at the cabin at 1:30 a.m. They went into the cabin, but did not build a fire to stay warm. The parents went up to the cabin at approximately 3 a.m. and didn’t see the truck so they assumed the boys weren’t there. They went back down the canyon and called search and rescue. The search and rescue located the abandoned vehicle near Potters Pond and saw tracks leading away from the vehicle.
“Hal Johnson from the search and rescue that lives in Joe’s Valley located the boys at the cabin. Sheriff Funk said, “I took the boys back down the canyon to their parents.
“They were in good condition, but their extremities were cold and their toes were frost nipped. I can’t stress enough the need for anyone going into the mountains to be prepared. These boys were lucky,” said Sheriff Funk.
