Ione was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Orangeville, Emery County, Utah to Gleve and Ada Jewkes Thayne during a blizzard. Her mother died 10 days later due to complications from childbirth. Her birth mother gave her the name Ione. Ione was adopted by Howard and CeCelia Jensen Reid also of Orangeville.
Ione spent her childhood in Orangeville, attended Central High School graduating with 29 in the class of 1941, of one being her future husband. After graduation she moved to Salt Lake City to work at ZCMI and lived at the Beehive House which then was a boarding house for young women. She married LaVar Ware on June 16, 1943 in the Manti LDS Temple. Throughout their life they lived in Dragerton, Orangeville, Logan, Midvale, Sandy, and Orem, Utah. They have three sons and one daughter: Wayne (Bonnie, deceased) of Sandy, Philip (Carolyn) of Kaysville, Gregory (Beverly) of American Fork, and Susan (Bob) Hawkins of Orem.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities. Her favorite callings were den mother and ward librarian. Ione was preceded in death by her husband LaVar in 2007. She was a wonderful grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 19. She passed away in her home of congestive heart failure on March 3.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, 11 a.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah. Viewing prior to services from 10 – 11 a.m. at that same location.
