The Emery High Lady Spartan volleyball team is on a roll after winning both games last week and still maintain a share of the region 15 lead. Emery closed out the first half of region play with a 3-1 win at Wasatch Academy and then started the one alf of region play with a 3-0 win at Grand.
Emery defeated Wasatch Academy 25-15, 25-12, 25-27 and 25-12. Emery defeated Grand by the scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 26-24.
The fist game at Grand was the only relatively easy win for the night but the Spartans are showing their growth as a team with their play as of late. Coach Kris Bell stated “We are starting to peak just at the right time, we are working hard as a team and we are running our plays well.” She is excited and thrilled that the team is playing as a team and not as a group of players, that they are unified and have common goals.
Emery’s five senior players have now played together for four years and are playing very well together. Aston Bell, Cassidy Labrum, Bailey Rasmussen, Lexi Huntington and Emily Olsen are seniors that “are all doing a good job” right now according to their coach. Camry Johnson, Jessica Olsen and Baylor Griffin are the three underclassmen that round ut the team that sees all the playing time.
At Wasatch Academy, Emery won easily with the exception of the third game when Bell played the JV team. The JV’s held their own in this first varsity action of the season.
Emery has just a single game this week, a game tonight at South Sevier. The Rams gave Emery their lone region loss of the season and a win tonight would greatly help the team in their goal of a region title. It would also make the girls happy to avenge that earlier loss.
