Huntington City held their monthly City Council meeting in October and gave final approval for a new sign that will go on Main Street somewhere around the creek. The sign will be a Huntington community event sign, a sign that will allow events to be better advertised than is currently happening. The sign will highlight the fact that Huntington is the gateway city into the San Rafael Swell, an area we all love and appreciate and an area that the rest of the country is now aware of.
The bid was given to Sign Edge of Price to manufacture and install the sign this fall. The sign is 17 feet by nine feet with the middle of the sign 14 feet off the ground. There will be room beneath the sign to advertise events going on in the city with four foot by eight foot banners.
In other business, the City approved business licenses for Millers Landing, an event center business located on Main Street, and for Tabletop Games, a board game/paint ball business also located on Main Street.
The Council approved a request to vacate lots 19 through 36 of the Powell Subdivision located on the hill above the cemetery.
Mayor Hilary Gordon reported Carbon Medical Services, a business operating in East Carbon and Helper offering medical services for lower income individuals, has approached the city inquiring about putting a facility within the city limits. A building has been identified that may work if their work allows them to come to Emery County.
Councilman Mark Justice reported the current project at the rodeo grounds is going well. The new restroom/concession stand located by the chutes is built with the roof on and that the rest of the work is going well. Justice also reported that curb and gutter projects for the years are wrapping up.
Councilman Jerry Livingston reported the fire department is running well and Tom Jensen has been appointed assistant fire chief by Chief Jim Gordon.
He also reported the cemetery has been fertilized and the lawn cut for the final time this season.
Councilperson Gloria Wilson thanked all those who helped in the just-completed city cleanup.
She reported the annual Turkey Trot 5K run will be held Thanksgiving morning at 9 am starting and ending at the city park. Cost is $7 per entrant.
