Alex, Garrett and Parker Stilson of Orangeville appeared before the Orangeville City Council to present a concept for their Eagle Scout Project. They proposed to construct two monuments and a pedestal at the Orangeville City Cemetery commemorating the original Orangeville Town Council, Castle Valley Settlers and original families of Orangeville. Pat Jones will provide a list of the original settlers. The City Council indicated, when the finalized and detailed proposal is presented next month they would consider this worthwhile project.
The City Council voted to give all Orangeville City employees a five percent wage increase, including Statutory Officers. Statutory Officers include Cindy Nielson city treasurer and Ruanne Leeflang city recorder.
A Public Hearing was held to discuss the Orangeville City General Fund Budget, water and sewer budget, municipal building authority budget and capital project budget. These budgets were all approved in the city council meeting.
Mayor Roger Swenson stated with this year’s 2014 Certified Tax Rate for Orangeville City of .001588 a home owner with a house assessed at $100,000 could see a $5 decrease in taxes due to increased growth in the city. The previous 2013 Certified Tax Rate was set at .001233.
The City Council voted to approve a policy governing agricultural water users within Orangeville’s secondary water system and set the rate of $4 per month, per acre-foot or $48 per year, per acre-foot.
