The National Federation of Republican Women will hold it’s fall convention Sept. 19-21 at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City. Attention Cleveland Residents
Representatives from the town will be contacting you regarding a short survery. The survey is the first requirement for the 2004 Community Block Grant. This grant and the survey is the same as the grant we received to purchase playground equipment. Your time and cooperation is appreciated. Veterans, Widows, and Dependents
A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Service Office will be in your area to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. The field service officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Oct. 9.

College Scholarship Source Guide
The 11th annual National Academic Scholarship Source Guide is now available for students and their families. The guide is published specifically to help college bound high school seniors and college and graduate students find scholarship money to help pay for tuition, room and board, text books, lab fees, and other educational expenses. Wind Symphony Concert
The Eastern Utah Wind Symphony, a college-community ensemble at College of Eastern Utah, will present the first concert of its 2003-04 season on Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Price Civic Auditorium. The performance will feature music by the British composer, Gordon Jacob. Admission is free.
Utah’s Heritage Tourism
History class was never like this! According to the Travel Institute of America, heritage tourism has become the most popular reason for travel. On Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. Wilson Martin will explore what this trend might mean for our communities. Mr. Martin is the Program Manager and Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer for the Division of State History, and will share his expertise at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum, 885 East Main, Green River. This is a presentation of the Utah Humanities Council Road Scholars, sponsored by the Green River Community Center, with funding support from the Utah HIstorical Society. Know Before You Go
Utah’s Off-Highway Vehicle Class will be held Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in the County Building, 75 East Main, Castle Dale. Utah law states that children from ages 8-15 must be certified to operate an OHV on public lands. Register at the Emery County Recreation Office, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. Seeking Public Input
The Utah Legislature’s Hazardous Waste Regulation and Tax Policy Task Force will hold community meetings on Sept. 18 from 9-11 a.m. at the Price City Offices in room 207 and on Sept. 19 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Blanding Arts and Events Center at the College of Eastern Utah San Juan Campus.
The task force is trying to get all the information pertaining to hazardous and radioactive waste out into the public domain. They want to look at both regulatory and tax policy to see if any statutory changes are needed. For more information, visit www.le.utah.gov.
CEU 65th Anniversary
The College of Eastern Utah will celebrate its 65th Anniversary on Sept. 20. Campus activities start at noon with the Alumni, Friends and Family Picnic and Barbeque. Highlights include naming of the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center and dedication of the G.J. Reeves Building, tours of the campus, an opening art exhibit at Gallery East and the Prehistoric Museum. A special event, Kidsfest, will be held from 1-3 p.m. The dinner and dance is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the college center. The Jimmy Dart Orchestra will provide music for the dance. Pennies by the Inch
The Pennies by the Inch campaign will run from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Volunteers throughout the intermountain area wll be collecting funds to hlep families and children who are unable to pay for their medical needs. In honor of “Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day” the Utah ophthalmological Society encourages you to call the EyeCare America Seniors Program This program offers eye exams and care to seniors who are without an ophthalmologist (a medical eye doctor). Donate School Supplies
There is a box in the lobby at Wells Fargo Bank in Castle Dale in which people can donate school supplies for the students in Emery County. The collected supplies will be given to the school district and they in turn will make the distribution to the schools. All school supplies, including pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, and calculators will be accepted.
AIDS Conference

Utah Commission on Volunteers
The Utah Commission on Volunteers and Utah’s Promise are currently seeking out nominees for the 2003 Red Wagon Awards to be presented in the State Capitol by Lt.Gov. Olene Walker. Fresh Produce to the Food Bank
Local food pantries are asking home gardeners to support the 22nd annual Share the Harvest by donating their excess fruit and produce to their local food pantries. Utahns Against Hunger and the Emergency Food Network encourage gardeners around the state to share their harvest with those in need. The local food bank is located at 40 South Center Street in Castle Dale.

Veterans’ Affairs Workshop
On Nov. 3 from 8 a.m.-Noon, the Utah Division of Veterans’ Affairs will host a workshop with the Small Business Administration. The workshop will consist of information for veterans that plan on opening their own businesses or already own a small business. The workshop will be held at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center, Building 9, located at 550 Foothill Drive. Pre-registration will begin Sept. 1. ACT Registration
College bound high school students who want to take the ACT Assessment on the Oct. 25 national test date should register by the postmark deadline of Sept. 19. The late registration deadline is Oct. 3 and will required an additional fee. Students can get registration materials from their school counselor or register online at www.act.org.
Nominations Sought for Country Doctor of the Year

Wild Horse and Burro Workshop and Adoption
The BLM will host a wild horse and burro adoption where approximately 75 wilds horses and 15 burros will be presented to the public for adoption. The adoption will be held Sept. 20 and the workshop will be held Sept. 14-19. Both events will be held at the Deseret Peak Complex, 2930 West Highway 112 in Tooele.
Angels Have Wheels
All Medicare recipients should now be aware that they may be eligible to receive and electric wheelchair or power scooter, paid for by Medicare, if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a manual wheelchair. American Legion Veterans, Widows and Dependants
A field service officer from the American Legion Department Service Office in Salt Lake City will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Sept. 30. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the American Legion to qualify for assistance.
Peace Officers 10K Run
The Utah Peace Officers Association is sponsoring a Fallen Officers 10K run on Sept. 13 at 7 a.m. in Lehi at Wines Park (Center Street and 500 North). The public is welcome to run and show your support for law enforcement officers in Utah who have paid the ultimate price to protect Utah citizens. Recreation Center Open Night

Volunteers Needed

DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASSES NOW AVAILABLE
The Utah Safety Council is now offering a four-hour defensive driving course for individuals in the Price area. The course will take place on Sept. 27, 2003 at the College of Eastern Utah College Center, from 8:00 a.m.-noon. The four-hour course consists of classroom instruction and focuses on accident prevention, driving confidence, awareness of hazards and improving driving skills. Drivers may complete the course for a 50-point reduction from their Utah driving record, once every three years. Individuals 55 years of age and older, may qualify for insurance discounts after completing the course. Registration is $35 per person, or $10 for those age 55 and over that are only seeking a reduction in their insurance rate.
