Bell hits two grand slams at state softball

Ashton Bell concluded her Emery High high school career last week when she and her teammates participated in the 2-A Utah State tournament in Spanish Fork. Bell had finished the regular season with 14 home runs, an amount that put her on the all-time leader board. Bell played three games in Spanish Fork and just to show how good she is, hit five more home runs there and now leads the state with 19 for the season. Teammate Kambree Hinkins finished the season with 10 homeruns.
Emery had to face Rockwell High in a play-in game on Monday in Price and defeated the Utah County team 18-3 in three innings. Emery then traveled to Spanish Fork to face one of the best teams in 2-A, Enterprise. Emery lost to the Wolves 15-8 on Thursday.
Emery then faced Rowland Hall later Thursday afternoon and the Spartans prevailed 29-7 in another three-inning affair. Emery closed out their season with a 9-8 loss to Gunnison on Friday.
San Juan faced South Summit on Monday for the 2-A championship after rain delayed Saturday play. South Summit will have to defeat San Juan twice in order to win the title. Finishing third was Enterprise with Manti fourth, Grand fifth and Gunnison sixth.
In the Monday game, Emery scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning, two in the second inning and three in the third to close out the game. Carlie Robinson had two doubles in the game and had five rbi’s.
Jarica Huntington also hit a double and Ashton Bell had a triple. In the Enterprise game, Bell had two home runs while Jarica Huntington and Jayla Weston each hit one. Bell and Jarica each had three base hits in the game. Emery scored one run in the first and fourth innings and three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings but Enterprise scored one in the first, two in the second and three in the third to keep the Spartans at bay. The Wolves also scored two in the fourth, four in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. Ashton and Jarica each had three base hits in the game.
Against Rowland Hall Emery scored 10 runs in the first inning, 16 runs in the second inning and three runs in the final inning. Rowland Hall scored seven runs in the second inning. Bell had two homeruns in this game and she also had two triples. Jarica Huntington and Jacie Huntington each hit a triple while Taylor Payne, Amber Petersen, Jayla Weston, Addy Healy, Jacie, Jessica Mason and Kelsey Reeve each hit doubles. Petersen had two doubles. Hinkins went 4 for 4 while Bell was
4 for 5 and Payne was 3 for 5 and Jarica was 3 for 3 batting.
Against Gunnison, Emery scored two runs in the first inning and two in the second inning to lead 4-1 after two innings. Gunnison scored one in the third inning and then four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. Emery regained the lead by scoring one run in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth inning to lead 8-6. Gunnison scored three in the seventh to grab the win.
Ashton and Taylor each hit a homerun in the game and Kambrie had a double. Kambrie, Taylor, Ashton, Jacie and Amber each had two hits in this game and the Spartans left seven runners stranded on the base paths.
