Wayde Nielson Emery County Road Department came to the County Commission on April 21 requesting permission to send out bid requests for the repair of the Marshall Bridge, across Huntington Creek, on the Huntington Mill Road.
This important farm to market bridge is in serious need of repair as the decking is rusting out and falling apart. The bridge was installed in 1984 using two flatbed railroad cars placed side by side across Huntington Creek. The bridge is closed at this time due to the fear that heavy vehicles could fall through the bridge decking.
The Huntington Mill Road or Emery County Road 307 is a four mile gravel road. This road runs from the city of Huntington, West along the South side of Huntington Creek until the road crosses the creek at the Marshall Bridge and intersects with Utah State Highway 31.
The Marshall Bridge is just East of the large irrigation diversion dam in Huntington Creek.
Howard Tuttle of Johansen and Tuttle Engineering said, “In order to make the bridge safe steel girders will be used to replace the old bridge decking.”
Nielsen will call around for bids on the project due to the emergency. He will gather bids which will be opened at the next commission meeting on May 5. Nielsen said they have money in the road department budget to make the repairs to the bridge.
