Ruth Sitterud Cox turns 90 this week. She is the daughter of Jessie and Edna Sitterud. She was born April 22, 1925 in Kenilworth, Carbon County, Utah. She was the seventh child of 16 children. Ruth has lived in Orangeville, Emery County all of her life.
She loved playing sports and was one of those “tom boy” types in that she played so well. Ruth also loved to read and has gained a wealth of knowledge through books.
Some of her best friends while growing up were Helen McNeil Wilberg, Elaine Peacock, and Arleen Cox Lemon. She had many wonderful friends and in her Senior year of high school she became Vice President of the studentbody and went on to graduate Salutatorian.
Ruth married Fred F. Cox on 16 Sept. 1945, after his return from service in the Army during World War II.
Ruth Worked as Deputy County Clerk after graduation and as Orangeville City Recorder for many years. She also was employed by Emery Mining Company and the Orangeville Telephone Office.
Ruth has served in many positions in the LDS Church and is probably best known for her teaching the Gospel doctrine class.
She has sent five children on missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She and her late husband Fred also served a full time mission in Mississippi.
Ruth is the mother of 11 children. The late Leonard Cox, Gregory Cox, Carol Grange, Winona Sondrup, Thayne Cox, Leslie Cox, Claudia Webb, Courtney Cox, Nancy Jorgensen, Selma Jorgensen and Edna Beth Bailey.
