Wells Clinton Wakefield, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015 at his home in Orem, Utah surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 25, 1925, the third of four children, to Clinton Nevar Wakefield and Jennie V Wells, in Huntington, Utah.
He married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Cox July 21, 1948 in the Manti Temple, spending 65 wonderful years together before Elizabeth passed away on July 31, 2013. Together they raised four children. Wells enjoyed taking care of his family and spending time at home. He was an active and devoted member of the LDS church, serving faithfully in many callings throughout his life, including being called as a bishop at age 72. He served in the Navy from 1945 to 1946. Shortly after his discharge from the Navy Wells served a two-year mission to the Hawaiian Islands for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Later in life, Wells and Elizabeth served for three years as temple workers in the Manti Temple, and then again later as missionaries in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania mission for a year.
Wells loved to be out in the great outdoors, and taught his family many life lessons in that wonderful setting. His passion for the outdoors included riding horses, cattle round ups, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and reading. His talent for wood and stone work has left a lasting legacy and many amazing treasures for his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children Roma (Paul) Peterson, Dick Wells (Jane), Bernard Lee (Linda), and Amy (Kerry McClellan), as well as 20 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren.
His passing will leave a tremendous void in everyone’s life he touched, be we know that he is now joyfully reunited with his sweetheart, his parents and siblings who preceded him in death.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at the LDS Meetinghouse, 3511 North 180 East, Provo, Utah. A short funeral will then be held at 11 a.m. in the same location. Immediately following the funeral the family will travel to Orangeville, Utah, where the interment will take place at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Orangeville City cemetery.
