The Emery High Lady Spartan volleyball team is off to a good start in the 2015 season. After going 5-1 in St George at a preseason tournament, the team came home to the Spartan Center and hosted Beaver High. Emery was not a good host as they sent the visiting Lady Beavers home with a loss.
Emery defeated the Beavers as they won the first set, lost the second set and then won the third and fourth sets to earn the win 3-1. The scores were 25-19, 12-25, 25-21 and 25-23. In the first set, Emery was behind 13-9 when the Emery team scored eight straight points to capture the lead and the win.
In the third set, Emery was leading 16-9 when the Beavers scored nine straight points to regain the lead but Emery answered right back on the next service to score seven points and retook the lead at 23-18. In the final set, Emery played constant throughout and eked out the set and the match by two.
Playing for the Emery varsity team this season are seniors Camrey Johnson, Jessica Mason, Bayler Griffin, Jessica Olsen, Skyler Sitterud and Aniston Curtis along with sophomore Morgann Donaldson and freshman Megan Jensen and Bailey Huggard.
In St George, Emery defeated Maeser Prep, Waterford, Gunnison, Millard and Bryce Valley before losing in the championship game to Kanab. Emery will be at home this Tuesday as they will host Altamont in the Spartan Center.
