At the final Huntington City Council meeting of the year the overwhelming discussion item was the retirement of three council people this season. Julie Jones, Jerry Livingston and Gloria Wilson all decided last summer not to run again for the council and they will all conclude their service at the end of the year.
Mayor Hilary Gordon thanked all three for their service as did members of the community who spoke during the public comment section. Each council person as they gave their final report expressed gratitude to the residents that elected them and they thanked the city for the opportunity to serve.
There were two items of business discussed. The Council made the decision to replace the splash pad surface to make it more user friendly before the summer warm season. The other item of discussion was the potential upgrade of the city offices. The office building is almost 20 years old and it is time to do some maintenance and repairs.
Items discussed were painting, new countertops, new flooring, redo some electrical, change some computer wiring, move thermostats that were installed in closets and change some windows. This item will be revisited next year. The City had a very successful city Christmas party at the fire station with more people than ever. The City served soup or chili plus there was an appearance by Santa and local elementary kids singing Christmas songs.
