My gift of Holiday Advice
Fortitude:
Things are never what they seem. Just when you think you have life all figured out a huge dose of reality hits you and you have to start again.
Start again, and don’t give up. Whether it’s a project or complete life change, if it didn’t work the first time, change it and try again.
Change:
Change is often inevitable. Everybody is afraid of change. Remember that you are not alone. Just as things are often not what they seem, the same holds true for people.
People:
People are rarely what they seem and if they are they are few and far between. Hold onto those people and cherish them like kings and queens.
Forgiveness:
People are not always going to be nice or honest to you in your life. Forgive them anyway. If you do that, you are the one that comes out the winner.
Honesty:
Be honest to all and more importantly be honest with yourself.
Admit your weakness, acknowledge and embrace it. Only you can fix it, learn from it and become a stronger person and well on your way to becoming the person you want to be.
Cheerfulness:
Be cheerful, and smile. When you do so, almost always it is returned.
If you are sad, surround yourself with happy people. No matter what your situation is, rely on your support group. In our tight-knit community, someone will help you. It is one of the greatest benefits of living in our small towns.
Control:
You have absolutely no control of what others do around you. You only have control over how you react. Choose your words carefully and react the way those you admire do. Take control of your actions, it will make any situation you are faced with less difficult.
Planning:
Hard work pays off. Sometimes it doesn’t seem so. But nothing ever gets done if you don’t work at it. Utilize the one gift we are all given: time. Use it wisely. None of us know how long or how much we will get.
Acceptance:
Acceptance; the wisest advice ever bestowed on me was: You can only make decisions based on the information you had at the time. If something didn’t work out as planned, accept that and move forward. This verifies change can be good, and hard work and fortitude can empower any bad situation to become something better.
To be HONEST, here it is my advice in a nutshell; Have fortitude in change and your forgiveness of people. Accept that you may cheerfully, plan on having no control this holiday season.
But my best advice?
Remember it “‘Tis the season to be grateful.”
Invest and enjoy the true gifts of the season; family, friends, time, love, laughter, memories, knowledge, hope, forgiveness and happiness.
The best gifts are the ones that money can’t buy.
