At the May Huntington City council meeting, the Council discussed the proposed adoption of an ordinance to promote water use efficiency within the City. The ordinance would restrict the use of outside water during the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The ordinance would also provide restrictions on overwatering and anytime water is running down the gutter with any volume. The Council tabled any action of the ordinance until the June meeting.
The Council discussed the proposed 2015-16 fiscal year budget. The proposed budget would have $691,867 in the general revenue account, $383,700 in the utility fund, $62,793 in the municipal building authority and $45,000 in the capital projects fund. The Council will discuss the budget in June and will adopt a budget at that time.
The Council approved a bid on the sidewalk project by B Hansen Construction for $54,270. This bid will allow the city to do nine blocks of sidewalk this summer season. Also bidding on the project were Arrowhead Construction, Nelco Contractors and B4 Enterprises.
The Council discussed the cemetery and the amount of decorations that are being placed at gravesites. The general discussion mentioned that there is too much and that decorations are staying way too long and are hindering normal maintenance of the grounds. The Council will further discuss the issue in June. The discussion will center around the dates that items can be placed, how long they can stay and exactly what is allowed.
Huntington Mayor Hilary Gordon mentioned the circus held last month went well and was well attended and that all that went had a good time.
The Mayor mentioned that Green River City has been in town looking for help on their ordinances and with Main Street enhancement.
Councilman Jerry Livingston said the cemetery looked good for Memorial Day. He mentioned that a new plot map is now in the kiosk for any that have questions. Livingston also mentioned that a signage project has been completed that was done as an Eagle Scout project.
Councilwoman Gloria Wilson thanked all those that helped with the plantings in the City pots and the flowers are now growing. Councilman Mark Justice said the landscaping at the rodeo grounds is now complete and the grounds look good with the new playground. Justice would like the rodeo grounds to hold more events to better use the rodeo grounds.
