Ruth Lorraine Jensen Martinez passed away peacefully on June 12, 2015. Lorraine was the first child born to Bradford A. Jensen and Leola Zwahlen Jensen in Castle Dale, Utah on July 20, 1927. The next year her sister, Jackie Sparks (of Ferron) was born, later her brother J.B. (of South Jordan) and her sister Mary Dea Headrick (deceased) were added to the family.
Lorraine married Ramon Martinez (deceased) on April 10, 1954 and they were the parents of four children: Evone (Richard) Pope of Billings, Mont., Michael Ramon (deceased), Nancy of St. George, Utah and Jackie (Tab) Weihing of Huntington, Utah. They were the grandparents of eight grandchildren: Richard Pope of Billings, Mont., Michael Pope of Provo, Utah, Marlayne Nye of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Jaclyn Robbert of Bentonville, Ark., Monica Wardle of Payson Utah, Mandi Olsen of Las Vegas, Nev., Adriane Olsen of SLC, Utah and Taylor Weihing – US Navy. They were also great-grandparents of 13 great-grandchildren.
Lorraine grew up in Ferron, Utah. After graduating from high school in 1945 she attended college at CEU and then served an LDS mission in the North Central States Mission 1951-53. After her mission she taught school in Standardville and Latuda, where she met and married Ramon Martinez. They began their family in Price and then moved to Huntington where they lived for nearly 50 years. Lorraine returned to teaching in 1967, teaching first in Cleveland and then at Huntington Elementary until she retired. Lorraine was a lifelong BYU fan, an avid reader and loved exotic foods. Lorraine was the family expert in people, places and interesting facts. Lorraine loved her little dogs. She moved to St. George, Utah four years ago to live with her daughter, Nancy. Most recently she lived in Price at the Heirloom Inn.
A viewing will be held Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Heritage Funeral Home, 620 North Main, Huntington, Utah from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Huntington Stake Center at 11 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery. Services are entrusted to the Heritage Funeral Home and friends and family may sign the online guestbook and share memories of Lorraine at www.heritagefuneralhomeutah.com.
