The Emery High boys’ golf team improved their finish in the 2-A golf tournament by three spots this year after finishing sixth in the two-day affair at the Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah. Last season Emery finished in ninth place.
Led by junior Race Nielson, Emery shot a 334-329 to finish with a final score of 666. Last year’s runner-up Grand High finished first this season as Emery’s region 15 foe was consistent throughout the year and the tournament as they shot a 314-302 to end with a score of 616.
Finishing second was South Sevier with a score of 631 followed by Manti, the defending champion with a score of 647. Finishing fourth with a score of 653 was Waterford and fifth with a score of 654 was Rowland Hall.
Nielson shot an 81-77 to finish 156. McKoy Holt shot 85-79 to finish with a 164. Also scoring for the Spartans were Kyler Farley at 168 and Oakley Toomer at 176.
Emery matched up with Delta, Providence Hall and Layton Christian on the first day of play and with South Sevier and Waterford on the second day of play. Shaidyn Killpack finished with a 208 and Deryk Fuller with a 189.
Nielson finished 11th in the state.
