The Emery High Spartan wrestling team took 14 wrestlers to this years’ closing 2-A state wrestling championships at Utah Valley University. Junior Ashton Dieli had the best finish of any on the team as he lost in the championship match to a tall, lanky wrestler from Delta by the score of 4-2 in the 160 pound weight class.
Three Emery wrestlers made the semi-final round but Dieli was the lone Spartan to win. Dieli defeated a wrestler from South Summit by the score of 13-6 to move on to the final round. McKoy Christiansen, a winner last year, also made the semi-final round in the 126 pound weight class but met up with a wrestler from North Summit that was a three-time state champion and who eventually became a four-time state champion. McKoy finished third as he won his next match over a Delta wrestler. Ty Mecham also made the semi-finals where he lost and then eventually finished sixth in the 220 pound weight class.
Chase Christiansen went 1-2 in the 106 pound class as did Zachary World in the 120 pound class. Gus Dalton was 2-2 also in the 120 pound class.
