At the recently concluded Cowboys Memorial Rodeo, the announcer Monroe Magnuson introduced the Allred family. They were honored at the rodeo as being stalwarts in the rodeo community of Emery County.
Magnuson said, “According to the Salt Lake Tribune the first recorded rodeo in San Rafael Country was in August of 1928, that speaks volumes for a long history and legacy of rodeo in San Rafael Country. The legacy continues to this day.
“Entering the arena are the descendants of Doyle and Anna Allred of Cleveland. Talk about a legacy. Doyle had five boys, Jimmie, Bill, Royce, Arch, and Pat and three daughters Reba, Roanna, and Leta Mae all of which competed in the rodeo arena. The legacy didn’t stop there.
“In 1950 the couple joined forces with Newel and Madge Nelson also of Cleveland and started the Nelson and Allred Rodeo company and provided bucking stock for rodeos throughout the Western United States into the 1970s. In September of 1971 in this very arena the Eastern Utah Rodeo Association held their finals and Nelson and Allred was the stock provider for that event.
“Some of the bucking stock from the rodeo company ended up in the rodeo strings of the California based Flying U Rodeo, as well as the Kerby Bar T Rodeo and Harry Vold Rodeo Company. But the legacy didn’t stop there.
“Doyle and Anna’s family made their marks in the record books of rodeo. Four generations of rodeo athletes to date in the Allred family. Among them there are 13 High School State Finals Qualifiers accounting for almost 50 trips to the high school State Finals Rodeo.
“Five high school state champion buckles are worn by the family, and the memories of nine trips to the World finals of high school Rodeo, one of which yielded a World Champion, Guy Allred in the bull riding.
“Four College Rodeo Scholarships helped some of the family get college educations, and several PRCA Wilderness Circuit Finals appearances and Championships including the famed Days of 47 Rodeo and the Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo.
“Yes ladies and gentlemen the legacy of rodeo continues in this community as it does in the Allred family.
“As they wave to you and say Thank You for the years of support and friendship creating this rodeo legacy, go on ahead and welcome to them to the CMR,” said Magnuson.
He also welcomed Austin Allred to the rodeo arena. He is the current high school champion in bull riding.
