PRICE-Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and longtime friend, Delbert Petersen, Jr., age 88, passed away Nov. 9, 2016 at the Heirloom Inn in Price.
He was born Feb. 6, 1928 in Spring Glen, Utah to Ethel Day and just prior to his birth his father Delbert Petersen passed away. After his passing, Ethel married Horace Stone Rutledge and the family made their home in Moab, Utah. On July 7, 1950, he married the love of his life Phyllis Jensen in the Manti LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2001.
Delbert dedicated his life to the service of others and he always went the extra mile to help anyone in need. He never met a stranger who he wasn’t willing to help. Dad was loved, respected and affectionately known by many as “Pete” or “Grandpa Pete”. Everyone adored him and his Tootsie Roll treats were a big hit with the children.
“Grandpa Pete” was a self-educated man who saw the good in everything, no matter what the situation. He was talented, creative and an instinctual mechanic who could fix or repair anything. Delbert honorably served in the US Navy during World War II. He raised his family in Orem, Utah where he retired from Geneva Steel as a Millwright. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a Counselor in the Bishopric at BYU and many other callings. He was extremely proud of the life’s he touched in Scouts. Pete took great pride in his home, yard and garden. He also enjoyed fishing with his brothers-in-law and traveling to see friends, family and those in need. Pete was always willing to share his testimony, stories and many jokes.

Williams, M.D., Price, Debbie (David) Donaldson, Price, Racquel (David) DeGraw, Lyman, WY, and Phillip Petersen, Salt Lake; brother, Dale (Lora) Petersen, Roy; 24 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren; and many loving family members and close friends.
