As the spring sports season is getting closer and closer to the end, the Emery High baseball and softball teams find themselves in danger of missing the 2016 postseason.
The Emery High Lady Spartans are 0-5 in region action and the boys are 1-4. In 2A East region softball, Grand High leads with a 7-0 record followed by Gunnison and San Juan at 4-2, North Sevier at 1-4 and Piute at 0-3.
Emery will face North Sevier twice this week with the opportunity to get back into the region race. Emery will face the Wolves at home on Friday.
In 2A East region baseball, North Sevier and Gunnison are tied for first place in the region with 5-1 records followed by Grand at 6-2 and San Juan at 3-5. Monticello is in last place with a 0-7 record. Emery baseball also plays North Sevier twice this week, once at home and once on the road. The home game is Friday.
Last week both the softball team and the baseball team played Gunnison home and away and both teams ended the week with a pair of region losses. The baseball team lost at home 16-5 on Tuesday with Race Nielson picking up the loss and then lost on the road on Friday by the score of 2-1 with Tel Gardner picking up the loss on the mound.
In the two games the Spartans only managed to get seven base hits with just two coming in the second game. Jordan Baletka had a triple in the first game for the Spartans and Bryce Dugmore had a triple in the second game. These were the only extra base hits of the week.
The Lady Spartans lost 7-2 at home and then lost 15-0 on the road. In the game at home Emery had four base hits with Jessica Mason having two singles and Addy Healy one. Kelsey Reeve hit a double.
In a sophomore/freshman game on Wednesday, the Spartans defeated the Carbon Dinos by a 4-2 score.
