Emery swim wins at home

The Emery High swim teams competed in two meets last week as the teams are just two weeks away from the Southern Divisionals that will place swimmers into the state meet. First the Spartan teams hosted Payson, Grand and Canyon View high schools at the Emery Aquatic Center and then the teams traveled to Richfield and competed against Richfield and Gunnison high schools. In the first meet, the Lady Spartans edged Grand High 77 to 72 with Canyon View scoring 65 and Payson 64 in a meet decided in the last few events.
The Emery boys literally won their side 108 to 101 as they finished first and second in the final event of the day and they defeated Canyon View with Payson scoring 57 points and Grand 11. At Richfield, the two host teams were both victorious as they edged the two Emery teams in another close battle. The Lady Spartans were edged 126 to 118 with Gunnison third with 32 points. The Emery boys’ team scored 131 but was beaten by Richfield’s 143 points. Gunnison scored 10 points here.
At home the boys won four events out of the 11 while the girls managed to win just one race. The boys finished second in six races with the girls finishing second in four events and third in three races and the guys were third in four races. Madi Allinson was the lone winner for the Lady Spartans as she won the 500-yard freestyle. Madi finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and swam on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished second with Erin Oliverson, Laci Hulse and Shaylynn Rowley.
Winning for the boys were the 200-yard medley relay team consisting of Devin Willson, Daryl Guymon, Nate Gilbert and Garret Stilson and the same four swimmers were on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that also finished first. Willson won the 200-yard IM race and Guymon won the 100-yard backstroke race for the only individual winners. Finishing second in the home meet were Garret Stilson in the 200-yard freestyle race and in the 500-yard freestyle, Laci Hulse in the 200-yard IM race, Deegan Minchey in the 200-yard IM race, Nate Gilbert in the 50-yard freestyle race, Tarryn Parkins in the 100-yard butterfly, Daryl Guymon in the 100-yard butterfly and Dakota Wright in the 100-yard backstroke.
At Richfield, Daryl Guymon won the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle and swam on the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Keldan Guymon, Stilson and Willson that won the event. Madi Allinson was the lone winner for the girls as she won the 100-yard backstroke and then swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that won with Lexi Johansen, Oliverson and Parkins.
Individual second place finishers for the Lady Spartans were Oliverson in the 200-yard freestyle, Helena Celis in the 50-yard freestyle, and Johansen in the 100-yard fly and Allinson in the 100-yard freestyle. Finishing second for the boys were Stilson in the 50-yard freestyle and Willson in the 100-yard fly and the 100-yard breaststroke. The boys 200-yard medley relay team of Willson, Guymon, Guymon and Stilson finished second as did the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Wright, Zac Fauver, Allen Durrant and Minchey. The girl’s 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Celis, Rowley, BriAnne Bass and Parkins finished second as did the 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Rowley, Celis, Oliverson and Allinson.
