The political season has been going on for several months at the national level and Tuesday night the caucuses ushered it into Emery County.
The Emery Democrats held their County Convention right after the precinct caucus meetings.
At the caucus meeting the citizens had the opportunity to vote for Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. Utah’s democratic delegates went 26 to Sanders and 6 to Clinton.
During the Democrat county convention Dan VanWagoner was unanimously elected to be the Democratic candidate for Emery County Commissioner.
A new Democrat party platform was discussed and after a few small changes it was approved unanimously.
Kim Player, secretary for the democratic party said, “Over 100 people showed up to participate in their precinct caucus meetings and vote in the Democratic presidential preference poll. Twenty-four people showed up in Green River. We’re very pleased with the turnout.”
In Emery County the following people have filed for office for 2016.

The Republican party caucuses were also held on March 22 along with voting for a presidential candidate. In Utah if a Republican candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes, they receive all the delegates from the state.
Ted Cruz received a majority vote and will therefore receive all of Utah’s 40 delegates.
There were three Republicans on the presidential ballot for local voters to choose. Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasick. In Orangeville there were four votes for Kasich, 63 for Ted Cruz and 31 for Donald Trump.
The Emery County Republican party will hold its county convention on March 31 at 6 p.m. at Huntington Elementary.
