The Emery High girls’ golf team played a region match last week at Mt View Golf Course in West Jordan and shot their best round of the season as a team.
Their team total was 140 after shooting a 126 last week at Palisades. Emery is proving that they are the team to beat for the 2-A team title at this same Mt View Golf Course in just three short weeks.
They are striving to improve on their second place finish last season.
Following Emery was the Grand High girls with a 113 score. Manti shot a 53 followed by Gunnison with a 42 score and San Juan with a 39 score.
Girls play with a modified scoring system where a higher score is the better score.
Sydnee Guymon once again led the team in scoring as she shot a 42 over nine holes. Lainee Jensen was second with a 36 score followed by Taijah Price with a 33 score. Sarah Swasey had the final score that counted as she shot a 29. The Spartans other two golfers were Sydney Timothy and Erin Oliverson. Timothy also shot a 29 and Oliverson shot a 22.
Just two matches remain for the Emery High Lady Spartan golf team, this week’s region match at the Cove View golf course in Richfield and next weeks’ 2-A Utah State Championship tournament at the Mountain View Course in South Jordan.
Last week the team traveled to Monticello to play the Hideout Course, a friendly and beautiful course that can be difficult when it wants to be, and the Spartans continued to roll as a team.
Emery won again, as they have every match this season so far, with a score of 127. Grand finished in second place with a score of 108. Doloris, Colo. joined the region for this match and came in third with a score of 76 followed by Manti with a 61, San Juan with a 54 and Gunnison with a 49.
Taijah Price was the medalist this week with a score of 36 and Sydnee Guymon, the team season scoring leader, was right behind with a 33. Lainee Jensen shot a 29 as did Sydney Timothy. Sarah Swasey shot a 27.
