On Oct. 11, 8-year-old, Hesston McArthur from Huntington traveled to Guthrie, Okla. to compete in the International Miniature Bull Riding World Finals where he finished as the number five bull rider in the world.
He qualified for the world finals by competing in the Utah Miniature Bull Riding Association rodeos throughout Utah. He also participated in the Chad Casperson association, rodeos in Utah and Idaho. During the season, Hesston won rodeos at Spanish Fork Fiesta days, Genola, Utah, Santaquin Utah, Ogden Utah, Laketown Utah, Marysvale Utah and Ferron Peach Days.
Hesston also placed second in the Diamond Fork winter series. Hesston is the number one points leader in the Utah Miniature Bull Riding Association.
He finished the year number two in Chad Casperson series. At the world finals Hesston competed against kids from all over the United States as well as from Mexico and Canada.
Hesston has been riding bulls for the past few years in rodeos and practices twice a week in Elmo thanks to Cody and Angie Jensen and Clinton Coyne family support. Hesston has numerous people to thank for this, as they say it takes a village, in this case it has been a whole community.
The local businesses helped Hesston live out his dream of making the World Finals. Those sponsors are McArthur Cattle, Pierce Oil, Golden West, Swifts Stop and Shop, JN Auto, T.C. West, HK Equine Ranch and American Rodeo Gear and many friends and family.
Hesston’s goal is to go to the PBR and the NFR, Hesston competes in the fifth and under rodeos.
Hesston has the ability to reach all his goals and everyone will all be cheering him on. At the world finals he has acquired National sponsorship with Crooked Horn Cowboy Protection from Okotoks, Alberta, Canada.
As Hesston returned to Emery County after the finals he was welcomed home by the fire departments, Sheriff’s office, McElprang livestock and family and friends.
