Last week the Emery High baseball team played three games, two region and one non-region, two at home and one on the road and Emery ended the week with three more victories.  Emery defeated Monticello twice in region action, first in Monticello by the score of 17-2 on Tuesday and then at home on Friday by the score of 7-0.  On Wednesday, Emery hosted Manti and won this game by the score of 5-3.
Emery pitched five pitchers last week and the five totaled 13 base hits allowed, five runs being scored against with just three of those runs being earned runs, the pitchers combined to strike out 27 batters and they combined to only walk four batters. Not a bad week by Emery pitching.  Tel Gardner started the first Monticello game and pitched just three innings and left the game with the Spartans leading 12-0.  Colton Willson pitched the final two innings.  On Wednesday Race Nielsen pitched all seven innings to get the win and then on Friday Zach Jorgensen pitched the first four innings striking out eight batters and left the game with Emery leading 4-0.  Easton Gordon pitched the final three innings.
Emery’s offense saw the team score 29 runs with 26 of those runs being earned.  Emery had 34 base hits including five doubles, three triples and one homerun.  The homerun was hit by Nielsen in the first Monticello game with the triples all coming in the second Monticello game and they were hit by Jordan Balletka, Gordon and Kyson Stilson. Stilson also had two doubles in the Friday game while Gardner had a double against Manti and Balletka and Willson had doubles in the first game of the week. Balletka went seven for nine at the plate, scored six runs and had four RBI’s.
Hitting singles on Tuesday were Logan Labrum with three, Balletka, Gordon, and Nielsen all with two apiece and Barnett, Gardner, Jorgensen, Koda Alton and Jensen with one each.  On Wednesday, Balletka and Labrum each hit a pair of singles and Nielsen and Jorgensen each hit one.  On Friday, Balletka, Gordon, Gardner Jorgensen and Alton each hit a single.  For the week, the Spartan batters had a .447 batting average as a team.
Emery continues region action this week as they play San Juan twice, on the road Tuesday afternoon and at home on Wednesday in the spring break shortened week.
