Fatty’s restaurant in Castle Dale has a new look. A ribbon cutting was held Jan. 11 for new owners Kolton World and David Sorensen. They spent last week remodeling the restaurant with new booths, tables and flooring. They have expanded the kitchen area and moved some things around to create more space. The Emery County Business chamber hosted the ribbon cutting.
The restaurant has an expanded menu and new hours 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday- Saturday. They now offer breakfast. Call 381-5080.
World said he started in June working for the previous owners Staci and Garrett Conover. After a few weeks he was asked if he wanted to buy the business. He said he’d always wanted to own a business but hadn’t really thought about a restaurant.
Staci wanted to stay home with her children. Owning and running a restaurant seems to consume all your time and energy.
Sorensen said he is a certified chef and graduated from culinary school in 2002. He worked on a cruise ship, in Torrey, Utah, and in Salt Lake. He worked at the Holiday Inn in Price for four years. He also worked at the Silver steakhouse in Price. The pair is excited about their new adventure as business owners in Emery County. They both grew up in Emery County. World grew up in Cleveland and Sorensen in Orangeville.
They have plans to change the name of the business to the Firepit later on in the year after their financial obligations are met with the previous owner. They are also getting involved in the local business community. They will be hosting a hot dog eating contest at the Emery County Fair in August. In May they will host the Emery County Business Chamber Lunch and Learn on May 17.
Another request they’ve had from tourists who visit the restaurant and the boulderers that come in, is to have liquor at the restaurant. They are looking at acquiring a liquor license so patrons can have a beer with their pizza.
Fatty’s offers catering. The expanded menu includes breakfast and they’ve added a lot more variety of salads to the menu.
World said, “We’re know for our speciality pizzas. We have philly cheese steak pizza, barbeque chicken, chicken alfredo, and many others. We have a speciality shake each week.
“We offer delivery service of our pizza and all our menu items. It’s $2 in Castle Dale and $5 for Ferron and Huntington. Our phone number is 381-5080. We are going to get a smoker in the summer and do some smoked meats. We do prime rib now every Friday night. In the summer we will smoke prime rib and other meats. Also we are planning a patio. We’re going to put a rod iron fence around out front with tables and umbrellas. We are also looking to purchase more property here to expand our parking lot to give more space to customers and for safety reasons.
“We have a drive-up window and you can call in your order and pick it up at the drive through. You can also come to the drive through and we’ll take your order then you can go do some errands and come back and get your food,” said World.
Sorensen said they’ve been very busy so far. “The response has been really great. Everyone’s been so supportive. We will cater events and we’ve had a lot of take out orders at the power plant. We’re looking forward to any overhauls and extra people in town. Once a month the power company has a breakfast meeting here. We’re thankful for everyone’s support.”
The owners invite you to come in and check out the remodel and have some of their great menu items, new items and your old favorites are still here. “We’re here ready to serve,” said World and Sorensen.
