The Emery County Sheriff’s office along with the Emery County Progress will be hosting a Suicide prevention working group Opening Workshop on Friday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. at the Emery County Sheriff’s Office Training Room 1855 No. Desbee Dove Road.
The presenter is Taryn Hiatt from Orem. She is the Area Director/American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Everyone welcome to attend this event. If you have contemplated suicide or you know someone who is suicidal or a loved one who has died by suicide please get involved to help yourself and those in our county who struggle. Let’s reach out to those in need.
Sheriff Greg Funk said “Our community really needs to be aware. We really need community involvement to help those who struggle. It’s out there everywhere and there isn’t anyone who hasn’t been affected in some way by suicide.
“At the sheriff’s office we deal with the devastation and the destruction left behind after a suicide and the worst part is there are tons of questions and no answers.
“There is a way to solve problems and help people, but those contemplating suicide look at it as the solution to their problem. We need to get people out into the community and give them opportunities to serve. Serving others will help them not concentrate so much on their own problems.
“We are encouraging everyone to come out and get involved in this working group. We are pleased to have Taryn Hiatt come down to do this workshop. She is an expert in this field. We would like to invite the school district, religious groups and just anyone to come out and get involved to help combat this epidemic we have in our community.
“It affects people of all ages, and it’s always a tragedy when a suicide occurs, it’s painful for all involved. We would like to increase awareness and get people help before they resort to such drastic measures,” said Sheriff Funk.
