On Jan. 22, a sponsor meeting was held for the Emery Rodeo Team. They were there to discuss contacting sponsors for the upcoming rodeo meet to be held on the weekend of April 16 and 17 at the Castle Dale Arena. Letters were sent out to the sponsors in December and it is the responsibility of the team members to follow up with personal calls and/or phone calls. It is through these sponsor donations that they are able to pay for the materials needed for the team to successfully host this event. The club is also in need of items to give away for the drawings that are held.
Officers this year are as follows: President, Cole Sherman; Vice President, Chet Allred; Secretary, Tiana Hansen. Adult Advisors are as follows: Club Advisor, Evelyn Allred; Sponsor Chair, Keri Allred; Fund-raising Chair, Rayne Jensen. Several of the team members have already reached the goal of state finals participation during the fall series of rodeos. This achievement is reached by the points they will receive on the finish place they reach at each rodeo. They will begin the spring series in Ogden on April 3, when others will have the opportunity to gain enough points to be eligible for state competition.
There will be a total of 14 rodeos during the spring series. These participants have to maintain their grade point average at school with both scholastic as well as citizenship to be able to travel with family and friends wherever in the state the rodeo is being held on the upcoming weekend. They have to carry the expense of going to these places, pulling their trailers with all their rigging and horses to every rodeo event they participate in.
They end the regular season in Oakley on May 21. After that they hope that they will have enough points to go to state and from there to nationals. As with any other sport they work hard to achieve the goal of state finals and then on to national high school finals. State finals are held in Heber City and Emery has been highly represented in the past and will be again this year.
Emery Rodeo Team puts their hearts and souls into hosting the rodeo meet here in April. There is a lot of preparation work and time put in for their rodeo to be successful and to have the rest of the state leave after being here with a positive attitude towards our youth and our community. That is why it is so important for them to gather contributions from sponsors to pay for the awards that are given to the participants in these events. If you are approached by one of the team members, or if you have received a letter, take the time to donate what you can. It is for a very good cause and they will appreciate your help immensely. Along with monetary donations, we would be more than grateful for items from businesses or individuals for our fund-raising raffle. We could also use some volunteers to help with other jobs that we will have during that weekend. There are over 500 high school rodeo participants that will be coming to take part in the various events of the Apr. 16-17 rodeo. Along with them will be families and friends that come as spectators. Let’s give them the best time of their lives and hospitality that doesn’t end while they are here. Let’s try to make them want to come back again, not just for high school rodeo competition, but to enjoy the other places of interest we have in our county and surrounding area.
Come out one and all and support our local riders, ropers, and participating youth on April 16 in the evening, slack on Saturday morning and regular events Saturday evening April 17. There will be a concessions stand open at all times during these events.
We would like to also take this time to say we appreciate all the local residents who purchased fruit bags from us in December for our fund-raiser. We sincerely appreciate the continuous support we have each year with our fruit bags.
