Lady Spartans scramble for the rebound.

The Lady Spartans of Emery High School hosted the Carbon Dinos last Thursday night and for a half, this young squad had their way with the visiting Dinos. The Spartans led 25-17 at halftime and they had held Morgan Warburton, Carbon’s talented senior shooter, scoreless. Unfortunately, the Spartans had to play the second half of the basketball game and the Dinos were motivated. They held the Spartans to only 10 second half points while they were kicking in 35 points of their own and won this game going away, 52-35.
Emery and Carbon were tied at the end of the first quarter 8-8 with Callie Seeley’s four points leading the way. Jodie Lundell’s two 3-pointers helped the Spartans outscore Carbon 17-9 in the second quarter. Natalee Hanson led the Spartans with 11 points while Seeley and Lundell finished the game with six points each.
Coach Merrell had this to say, “I’m pleased with how our players are developing as basketball players. Since the beginning of this season, our team and our players have improved. We knew (going into the season) the kind of year that we would probably have.” Not only were the Spartans very young and inexperienced, they were also playing in the toughest region in the State this season. Region 8 has four very good teams, with two of them ranked in the top five.
The Lady Spartans are on the road this week as they travel to Mt Pleasant on Tuesday and to Delta on Friday. Game time each night should be 5:15, as they play just before the men.
